lyrics
I’m the Mayor of Mississippi, you’ve seen me on the streets/
You ignore my eyes, but I can see through you/
You come across the county/
You come down from the hill/
You buy my neighborhood but you won’t pay my bill/
You went and stole Albina, and you let Vanport drown/
I’m the Mayor of Mississippi, you can’t keep me down/
Lost a house to market figures/
Lost a love to measured numbers/
What’s now left will last forever, it is not for sale/
My family moved out east, they said they’d pay my way/
I’m the Mayor of Mississippi, my home is where I’ll stay/
I’m the Mayor of Mississippi, I’ll be here when you’ve gone/
When the school system has failed you, and you go where you belong/
I don’t need your salted caramels, I don’t need your brand new condos/
I don’t need anything, with a line so long/
I’m the Mayor of Mississippi, and you don’t know my name/
You search to find yourself, but you are all the same/
I’m the Mayor of Mississippi, and you don’t know my name/
I’m the Mayor of Mississippi, and you don’t know my name/

Punk fans might welcome this. I would've welcomed this in 1981, which is when I incorrectly guessed this was released. Vocalist figured out best vocal phrasing to complement the band while they nail a range of noisy punk styles developed circa late 70s/early 80s. Thomas Adams
